Vietnamese food is slept on… let me tell you! Before we arrived in Vietnam, neither Sam or I experienced real Vietnamese food. We were blown out of the water with every meal we ate in Vietnam. The food was full of flavors that compliment each other in every way. Our first meal was the famous food dish, Pho.

Pho

Pho (fuh) is one of Vietnam’s most well known and traditional dishes. Pho consists of a hot broth, fresh rice noodles, a bunch of herbs, and your choice of chicken or beef. Pho is one of the most famous dishes because it is both delicious and cheap.

We ate Pho a lot in Vietnam, seeing s it only cost us about 2 usd. I always got Pho with beef because I got hooked on it the first time! It was hot, flavorful, filling, and light all in one. It was like no dish we have experienced before.

Banh Mi

Banh Mi is the Vietnamese version of a sandwich. Most travelers suggest trying the Banh Mi because it is the perfect item for a quick and cheap lunch. The Banh Mi varies depending on the city you are in. All meats and/or veggies are served on a delicious french baguette.

In the southern part of Vietnam, the Banh Mi contains more colorful foods of cheese, cold cults, vegetables, and such. We ate Banh Mi a few times, but we were hooked on Pho most of the time!

Bun Cha

Bun Cha is my personal favorite Vietnamese dish. Bun Cha is just as delicious as Pho. Bun Cha is a traditional dish like Pho and extremely popular in the capital. Marinated pork belly is charcoaled over a fire served with a fish-sauce broth, a basket of herbs, and rice noodles. YUM!!

Also, sometimes it is nice to not know the ingredients of a dish until after you eat it. I would’ve been less likely to try this dish because of the fish sauce and would’ve never found my love for Bun Cha!

These are the most traditional and our personal favorite dishes we had the chance to experience. There are other amazing dishes we enjoyed, so take a risk and order something different on the menu. We couldn’t get over how great we felt eating the food in Vietnam. The food was so flavorful like nothing we had before and gave us tons of energy.

Usually food at home makes me feel heavy and lethargic, but in Vietnam I felt light and energized. We highly suggest looking around for a Vietnamese restaurant near you. It may not be as authentic but I promise you, you won’t regret it!
